Hghlights of 2012: Reaping what they sow

Klang: The MSSM 2012 basketball for players under 12 years was held at Stadium SJK (C) Hin Hua from March 12 to 17. Selangor had an overall score of 32 points, making them the overall champions. The boys' and girls' under-12 teams both emerged champions, and they also won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards. These awards were won by Liew Jia Huei from the girls' team and Cheng Yeong Xuen from the boys' team. The best shooter from the girls' team was Chong Run Yee from the Kuala Lumpur team, and Brian Yew Ee Heng from Malacca won this award for the boys' team. The coach Choa Wen Hu from SJK (C) Yuk Chai Petaling Jaya has been coaching the girls' team for 16 years. They won 11 of the 16 competitions. They have defended their title for the last nine years consecutively. The recent MSSM 2012 marked another success for the team.

Coach Choa was very happy with his team's achievement. He said the main criteria for choosing his players were good discipline, the ability to work hard and good scores in school. He looks for players who are all-rounded, ie: well-balanced students. There's no special formula for his success. It is the result of pure hard work, good attendance and strong discipline.

Besides playing in the MSSM, the coach also encourages his team to play in other competitions such as the Ayam Al, KDU Cup and friendly matches with teams from other schools and countries such as Singapore and China. Normally these competitions would take place during the school holidays to increase the experience of his players and build their confidence. On the other hand, the players find him to be a coach with high expectations. For example, if you are late for training without a valid reason, then you had better be prepared to run a few extra rounds on the court. Choa Wen Hu always believes that "what you sow is what you reap in the end".
